Overview of Zoology Department
The Department of Zoology of Indira Gandhi Government College, Tezu was established in July 2014 with 35 numbers of students and one faculty, now retired, Dr. V.K. Srivastav. The semester system/ pattern of course were adopted since the establishment of the course till 2020. Since July’2021, the college and also the department have adopted the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as introduced by Rajiv Gandhi University in all the colleges of the state under its affiliation. And after 2 years of the implementation of the CBCS, from the year 2023, the NEP-2020 has been implemented in the college, as introduced by Rajiv Gandhi University.
The undergraduate programme (Zoology) is designed to help the students acquire the values of critical thinking, effective communication, social interaction, basic ethics and lifelong learning. The program helps students to develop scientific temper and attitude. The programme provides students with basic knowledge of various disciplines of Zoology and also of General Biology. The course provide students with a working knowledge of fundamental principles in zoology that will provide a foundation for their later advanced course work in more specific biological subjects.
