Overview of Economics Department

Keeping in view the need of the students passing out their class XII examination from different higher secondary schools of Eastern Arunachal Pradesh, Department of Higher Education of the State decided to open Economics subject in IGG College, Tezu in the year 1986. The basic objective behind opening this subject in the college is that as this is the oldest higher education institute in the Eastern part of the State, the students passing from the schools of this zone had to pursue study in Economics as a subject either in J.N.C Pasighat or D.N.G.C, Itanagar and most of the families could not send their children to either of these two institutions due to financial constraint and despite a deep willingness, they were deprived of pursuing higher education opting Economics as a Subject.

Therefore, in order to cater the needs of the students and to fill the gap of demand and supply of manpower with background of Economics, the department is functioning with full dedication since its inception.

Although the Course Curriculum is designed by Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar, the department has identified Development Economics, Tourism Economics and Basic Econometrics as its thrust area for the overall skill development of the learners.

Some alumni of the department are well engaged in different fields within and outside the state including faculty in NIT, Universities, Colleges and Managerial Staff in Banking sector etc.

Currently, more than 250 students are pursuing their UG studies in the Department.
